Contains the records of Peter A. Jay (1776-1843), son of John Jay, and of Mary Rutherfurd Clarkson, his
wife; with those of their descendants to the present day. It is now the property of Dr. John C. Jay, of
New York, grandson of the original owner.
John Jay was married to Sarah V. Livingston (fourth daughter of Wm. Livingston Esqr) on the 28th day
of April in the year of our Lord 1774 by the Rev. Mr. James Caldwell of Elizabethtown.
Maria Jay was married to Goldsborough Banyer junior Esqr. at Albany the 22nd day of April 1801 by the
Revd Thomas Ellison Rector of St. Peters Church in that city.
Peter Augustus Jay was married to Mary Rutherfurd Clarkson (eldest daughter of Mathew Clarkson Esqr)
at New York the 29th day of July 1807 by the Right Revd. Bishop Moore.
Mary Rutherfurd Jay (eldest daughter of Peter Augustus Jay Esq.) was married to Frederick Prime
(youngest son of Nathaniel Prime Esq) at New York the 30th of April 1829 by the Rev'd William
W. Jay (youngest son of John Jay) was married to Augusta McVicker.
Sarah Jay 2nd daughter of P. A. Jay, was married to Wm. Dawson Feb. 11th 1836.
Peter A. Jay son of J.C. & L. Jay was married to Julia daughter of Alfred C. Post M.D. in New York March
30th 1869 by Rev. Dr. Prentiss & Rev. R. F. Alsop.
John Clarkson Jay, son of J.C. & L. Jay was married to Harriette Arnold daughter of Maj. Gen. D. H.
Vinton in New York Dec. 12th 1872 by the Rev. Dr. Alexander H. Vinton & Rev. Peter A. Jay.
John Clarkson Jay M.D. was married to Laura Prime youngest daughter of Nathaniel Prime on the 8th
November 1831 by the Rev. Dr. Wainwright.
John Jay son of William Jay was married to E. R. Field daughter of H. W. Field 23rd June 1837.
Fred'k Prime was married a second time to Lydia, only daughter of Rob't Hare of Philadelphia in August
Catherine Helena jay, 3rd daughter of P. A. Jay was married to Henry Augustius Du Bois, M.D. on the
17th Dec. 1835, the Great Fire in N.Y. began in the evening of Wednesday the 16th Dec. -35.
Peter Augustus Jay son of Peter A. Jay was married to Miss Josephine Pearson youngest daughter of the
late Joseph Pearson of Brentwood near Washington D. C. on the 13th Jan. 1848 by Rev. Mr. Pyne.
Anna Maria Jay daughter of Peter A. Jay was married to Mr. Henry E. Pierrepont, youngest son of the
late H. B. Pierrepont of Brooklyn, N. Y. on the 1st Dec. 1841 by the Rev. P. S. Chauncey.
Susan Matilda Jay was married to Mathew Clarkson, eldest son of David Clarkson on the 14th April 1852
by Rev. Dr. Hawks.
Laura Jay was married to Charles Pemberton Wurts on the 8th Feb. 1854by E. C. Bull in the old Church
Mary J. Jay daughter of J.C. & L. Jay married to Jonathan Edwards on the 5th of June 1861 by the Rev. J.
C. White at Rye.
Peter Augustus Jay (son of John Jay) was born in Elizabeth Town in New Jersey the 24th day of January
Susan Jay born at Madrid the 9th day of July 1780.
Maria Jay born at Madrid the 20th day of February 1782.
Ann Jay born at Passy near Paris the 13th day of August 1783.
William Jay born in the City of New York the 16th day of June 1789.

Goldsborough Banyer Junior Esq., died on the 6th day of June 1806 at New York remains removed to
Rye Jan. 1846
Goldsborough Banyer (son of the former) died the 26th day of October at Albany.
Sarah Jay Banyer died at Albany on the 8th day of October 1808.
Susan Jay died at Madrid on the 4th day of August 1780.
Sarah Louisa Jay died at New York on the 22nd day of April 1818.
John Jay died on the 17th day of May (Sunday) at Bedford in the 84th year of his age - 1829.
Mary rutherfurd Prime died at Hellgate New York on the 9th of September 1835 in her 26th year.
Augustus Jay died in 1751 in his 86th year.
Augustus Jay son of J. C. Jay died 27th June 1837. at Hellgate, N. York was buried at Rye N. York.
Mary Rutherfurd Jay wife of P. A. Jay died in the Island of Madeira on the 24th day of December 1838.
John Jay son of John C. Jay died in N. York on the 16th day of June 1841 & was buried at Rye.
Peter Augustus Jay son of John Jay died in N. York Feb. 20th 1843 and was buried at Rye aged 67 years.
Sarah Jay wife of Wm Dawson died Jan. 9th 1846 was buried at Rye.
Wm Dawson died March 12th 1852 was buried at Rye.
Maria A. Jay, daughter of John C. & Harriette Jay died Jan. 2nd 1878, aged four years -
Josephine wife of P. A. Jay died at the house of Mrs. Banyer in N. York on the 3rd Jan. 1852 & was
buried at Rye.
Wm Pudcey Dawson died 12th March 1851 aged 12 years & was Buried at Rye.
Nath. Prime died 26 Nov. 1840 aged 72.
Cornelia widow of Nath Prime died April 21st 1852 aged 78 & 5 months about - Buried in Family vault at
Peter Augustus Jay grandson of Gov. Jay died in New York Oct. 30th 1855.
Matilda Coster Jay died December 28th 1856 at Rye aged 6 years & 5 months 23 days.
Ann Maria Jay daughter of John C. & Laura Jay , died in N. York Dec. 3rd 1858.
Rev. Peter Augustus Jay died Oct. 11th 1875 aged 34 years son of John C. & Laura Jay.
Sarah Jay daughter of John C. and Laura Jay died April 24th 1883.
Laura Jay wife of John C. Jay died Monday July 30th 1888 Aged 76 buried in Family cemetery at Rye.
John Clarkson Jay, son of Peter Augustus Jay & grandson of John Jay died at Rye Nov. 15th 1891 in the
84 year of his age Buried in the Jay cemetery at Rye.
Elizabeth Clarkson Jay daughter of Peter Augustus Jay & Granddaughter of John Jay died at New York
Oct. 26th 1895 in the 73rd year of her age. Buried in the Jay cemetry at Rye.
Ann Jay daughter of Gov. Jay died November 13th 1856 in N. Y.
Maria Banyer, the last daughter of Gov. Jay died November 21st 1856 at her residence in N- Y-.
Augusta Jay Wife of Wm. Jay died April 26th 1857 & was buried at Bedford
Wm. Jay son of Gov. Jay died at Bedford Oct. 14th 1858 & was buried there beside his wife.
Cornelia Jay daughter of John Clarkson & Laura Jay died at her residence 155 W. 58th St. New York City
on Friday Oct. 18th 1907 in her 69th year Buried in Jay cemetery Rye N. York.
Susan Matilda Clarkson. On Wednesday, June 20th 1910. Wife of Mathew Clarkson & daughter of the
late Peter A. Jay died at 160 Central Park South. Interred at Tivoli-on-Hudson.
Laura Wurts. On Sep. 17th 1910 in Honolulu Hawaii of Pneumonia; Widow of Charles Pemberton Wurts
of New Haven, Conn. & eldest daughter of the late John Clarkson Jay of Rye on Oct. 1st 1910.
Mary Jay Edwards, widow of Jonathan Edwardss, & daught. of John C. & Laura Jay, died at Ridgefield
Conn. June 27th 1897 buried in Jay cemetery.
Jonathan Edwards, born Nov. 6, 1821, died at New York May 30th 1882, buried at Jay cemetery.
Harriette Arnold Jay, wife of Dr. John Clarkson Jay, born Oct. 3rd, 1849, died May 8th, 1914, buried in
the Jay cemetery at Rye, N. York, May 11th, 1914 - Died at Worcester, Mass, suddenly, while visiting
her brother, she was the daughter of the late Maj. General D. Hammond Vinton.
John Clarkson Jay Jr. was married April 20th 1903 in the Pine St. Presbyterian Church at Harrisburg
Pennsylvania to Marguerite Montgomery Solèliac, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Solèliac by the
Reverend George S. Chambers.
